Why you need to start traveling right now!

Yes, if you follow my blog, you know that I have always had a deep desire of traveling, but for a long time, I did not really have the means to do it. Whenever someone talks to me about a trip somewhere, it feels like something is taking control over me and the only thing I can think about is making it happen.

It’s not always easy, but it is doable, depending on your budget you only need to sacrifice some of the things you might be accustomed to buying/do. And sometimes you might only need to take a risk and just do it without thinking too much about the details. It’s all up to you!

Just to give you a personal example: during the first year of my Master’s I have decided (don’t remember why and when) to apply for an Erasmus scholarship in Italy. Good idea! Only …some small problems: I did not speak Italian, I did not have any money, I was working at the time. And to this day, doing that was the craziest thing I’ve ever done, my parents warned me there was only so much they could do money wise, but it ended up to be one of the greatest experiences of my life so far.

I’ve enrolled in an intensive Italian language class, have studied it for 2 months, in between university classes and work, passed the admission test and got one of the 2 places at the University of Trieste. Saved more than half of my paycheck every month (that was around 170 euro) for one year before I left – it worked because I was living with my parents at the moment. I really did not have any plan when it came to housing and I did not even look on the internet for apartments for rent. It was just one of those things that are meant to happen. Remember, there were only 2 places at the University? I contacted the other girl and she managed to find a room for the both of us. Just like that!
I left my job one week before leaving and off I was!

And what a journey it has been! I lived for 6 months in pure Paradise: I’ve made international friends, lived next to a castle, fell in love with Italian food (and coffee, and gelato!), lived by the sea, got tanned for the first time in my life (really tanned), road triped my ass off, got to see the love of my life Bon Jovi in concert, had a city break in Prague and yes, actually fell in love. And I had only 800 EUR in my pocket when I left after paying my rent, but all the memories they helped me make are priceless. IMGP9197
